Our retreat this year will be led by the Revd Canon Sister Clare Lockhart.
Sr. Clare is a Sister of Charity, an Anglican Religious Community founded in Bristol, and is a member of the Carmel Community at Gress on the Isle of Lewis, where she has lived for twenty years. Clare was ordained as deacon in 1987 and priest in 1994. She served for many years as a hospital chaplain and parish priest in the Diocese of Durham, and has ministered as Interim Priest in Stornoway. The Carmel Community is an ecumenical group founded to explore the rich heritage of Christian Spirituality. Meetings, Quiet afternoons and seminars are held during the year, and the Divine Office is said daily.
Her special interests are in Eastern Monasticism and Iconography, and, at the moment, the poetry of Seamus Heaney, W. S. Graham, and Malcolm Guite.
The Retreat is organised for members of the Diocese of Argyll and The Isles, but members of other Dioceses and the Friends of the Cathedral of The Isles are also welcome. There will be some periods of silence during the retreat.
Accommodation is in comfortable rooms and the home cooking is excellent. The College is set on a grassy wooded site next to the Cathedral of the Isles built in 1851 by William Butterfield and is minutes from the sea.
