A retreat for the beginning of Lent with Canon Alec Boyd

Join us for a celebratory Monday evening dinner, followed by times of silence and reflection during the next two days, with daily worship in the cathedral and addresses to help guide you. An effective way to begin your own personal Lenten devotions.

Canon Alec BoydAlec Boyd was ordained deacon in 1971 and priest in 1980 of the Episcopal Church in Scotland in St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh after a successful teaching career to minister in St Peter’s Church Musselburgh. He was accepted into the Royal Army Chaplains’ Department in 1983 and served as an Army Chaplain until April 2000. He held various senior posts within the RAChD ending up as warden of the RAChD Centre in Germany with responsibility for chaplains’ training and moral, ethical and welfare training throughout the wider military community.

On leaving the Army Alec became warden of Launde Abbey, the Leicester Diocesan Conference & Retreat Centre where he led many retreats and quiet days and acted as spiritual director. On invitation of the Bishop of Lincoln Alec was appointed incumbent of the Fen & Hill Group of Parishes in the Horncastle Deanery, and became Rural Dean and a Canon and Prebend of Lincoln Cathedral.

Now retired to the Isle of Cumbrae, Alec works closely with the Cathedral of The Isles and the College of the Holy Spirit. He looks forward to welcoming people on retreat and sharing his experience with them.

Accommodation:
There is a fixed price for events on our Open Programme and accommodation is available on a first come first served basis. The College has 4 single rooms with shared bathroom facilities, 4 twin rooms with shared bathroom facilities, 2 double rooms with shared bathroom facilities, 1 family room (double & single) with shared bathroom facilities, 2 en-suite twin rooms, 2 en-suite double rooms and 1 en-suite family room (1 double & 2 singles). Please select the type of accommodation that best meets your needs. Double or twin rooms may be used for single occupancy where needed.

This retreat is offered both residential and non-residential

Cost:
£275 full board or free non-residential (meals available on request)

Friends’ Bursary Scheme
We do not want cost to prevent anyone from attending an event at The College of The Holy Spirit. Please see here for details of a bursary scheme run by the Friends of the Cathedral of The Isles.
